COMBINATION RE-CIRCULATING AIR AND INFRA-RED OVEN FOR AUTOMOTIVE
INDUSTRY
Federal Mogul, Bradford, produce vehicle engine
pistons for major motor manufacturers such as Ford, Vauxhall, Toyota and Volvo. Modern high
efficiency, high reliability engines use the latest screen-printed surface
coatings, applied in exact locations and amounts to the pistons.
|
|
To achieve correct and reliable function of the
coating, the pistons must be quickly heated to 200ºC +/-5ºC
and held at that temperature for 10 minutes.
The oven has four stages:
-
Flash-off
at 60ºC using low-density medium wave infrared lamps
-
Pre-heat
to 200ºC using high-density medium wave infrared lamps
-
Cure
at 200ºC using high volume re-circulating air
-
Cool
to 40ºC using a controlled mix of factory and outside air
|
 |
|
The oven
has access panels throughout for maintenance.
The lamps are mounted on drop down panels, which when closed connect to
cooling air ductwork.
The
piston stem (seen in the foreground on the conveyor) is a unique Caltherm design
and accommodates all shapes of piston that go through the oven.
The whole oven, conveyor and control panel were assembled and tested,
complete with oven profiles, in Caltherm's works before delivery. |
