One of two work-stations designed and built for Thermometrics Limited.
These workstations are medium wave infrared dryers for electronic
components.
Tiny thermistors for
automotive use are silver-coated by the operator on a jig. The jig is then placed in the drawer, the drawer closed and
the start button pressed. The lamps
come on for a pre-set time and dry the silver film. Completed work is stacked
below the drawers to cool. Cooling
fans lengthen lamp life and utilise the convected lamp heat in addition to the
radiant heat.
These
work-stations replaced re-circulating air batch ovens, reducing drying time by a
factor of 10. They
were ergonomically designed around the working practice of the operators to
maximise the use of space.
All these factors have combined to increase productivity.
