AEROSPACE GLASS TOUGHENING FURNACE

This furnace was part of a complete turnkey package that Caltherm completed for Pilkington Aerospace in 2001. Design was completed in Caltherm's drawing office allowing the complex structure of the glass handling mechanism, furnace, compressed air system and rapid-quench system interfaces to be optimised before construction.

Civil works included excavating a pit in which the equipment was installed to maintain convenient operating levels within the existing factory building.

The furnace toughens glass used in aircraft windscreens and also high speed trains in order to make it impact resistant.
