Pilkington: glass specialists

 

The initial design of this glass furnace and quench (3D CAD drawing shown to the left) was ordered in April 2002 and delivered to site for commissioning in October 2002.  

 

Used for toughening the glass used in aircraft screens, the whole plant will be recipe driven and fully automated.  

 

Briefly, the sequence is:

 

  • load glass

  • raise glass to furnace

  • pre-heat to 600°C+

  • lower glass through second furnace to increase surface temperature

  • raise fluidised sand bed to load position

  • lower glass into temperature controlled (heating/cooling) fluidised sand bed

  • lower sand quench from glass and unload

The oven leaving Caltherm ready for installation at the client's site
